The Challenge

Thunderbird Supply Company needed a refreshed website experience that better reflected the quality of their products while improving usability for customers. The existing site lacked visual consistency, had limited brand definition, and featured product imagery that made it difficult for users to fully engage with the merchandise.

With a focused scope and timeline, the opportunity was to elevate the homepage experience, establish a stronger visual direction, and create a foundation that could extend across the rest of the site while working within an existing ecommerce framework.

Strategy & Execution

I partnered with the project manager to quickly align on goals, content priorities, and user needs. Using that input, I created a homepage wireframe to define structure, hierarchy, and key user flows early in the process.

From there, I developed a visual direction that built on the client’s existing identity while refining it into a more cohesive system. I adjusted the color palette to feel more balanced and approachable, using stronger accent colors intentionally for calls to action. I also selected typography that aligned with the brand’s southwestern aesthetic and helped reinforce a clear visual hierarchy.

To support the design, I created custom imagery that showcased the products in a more engaging and lifestyle-oriented way. I also improved the clarity of featured product visuals to ensure users could better evaluate items directly from the homepage. In addition, I recreated a reverse version of the logo to ensure consistency across darker sections of the site.

Once the design was approved, I collaborated closely with the nopCommerce developer to bring the experience to life. I worked alongside development to ensure the design translated accurately across devices and screen sizes, and helped extend the homepage look and feel into interior pages while working within the constraints of the ecommerce template.

Impact & Outcomes

The updated experience created a more polished and engaging first impression for users, with clearer product visibility, stronger visual consistency, and improved usability across devices.

The impact was especially evident during Thunderbird Supply’s first major promotional event following the redesign. During their next Super Sale, the company tripled their previous peak-day revenue record, increased orders by 124 percent year over year, and saw average order value grow by 50 percent. They also acquired 136 new customers in a single day.

The project not only elevated the overall experience but also contributed to measurable business growth, demonstrating the value of thoughtful UX and design even within a focused scope.
